Bali is a tropical paradise, and Ubud is its cultural heart. After our Singapore meetup, we flew to Bali for a longer vacation. Our goal was to find a premium, private jungle villa without paying resort prices.

The $40 Private Pool Villa
We bypassed the big hotel chains and booked a local villa on Airbnb in the north of Ubud (near Tegallalang). For just $40 USD a night, we got:
- A private infinity pool overlooking lush palm trees.
- Open-concept kitchen and outdoor shower.
- Daily fresh breakfast served by our local host.
Booking slightly outside the main Ubud center (about 10 minutes away) cut the price in half!
Scooter Freedom
To get around Ubud’s narrow roads, we rented a scooter for just ₱300 (around $6 USD) per day. It gave us the freedom to drive to the Tegallalang Rice Terraces at 7:00 AM before the tour buses arrived, and explore secret jungle waterfalls.
Local Warungs vs. Tourist Cafes
While Ubud has beautiful Instagram-famous cafes, we preferred the local family-run restaurants called Warungs. A massive plate of Nasi Goreng (Indonesian fried rice) or Mie Goreng with a fried egg costs just $1.50 USD and tastes absolutely delicious.
